Meet Our Family!

Unlike many rental homes, ours is completely family owned and run. We have put so much thought and energy into creating a good experience for you and hope that you'll enjoy your time and come back again in the future!

The Story

After spending their life living in the piedmont and wishing for a mountain home, Joe and Karen finally decided to make it happen in 2020. They were looking for something small, for just themselves and the family. However, when Joe saw this raw land with a waterfall, it was love at first sight. Four years of literal blood, sweat, and many tears later, the cabins were finished.

The building process hit one roadblock after another, and was only possible through the support of the family and community. Joe's brother and niece drove 5 hours round trip to help lay flooring and install vanities. Joe's sister gifted some of the beautiful furniture seen inside. Karen's father helped care for Joey while she worked and Joe spent days in the mountains away from home. Ashley's friends helped teach her how to repair the lawnmower, use a chainsaw, and when times were especially tough, came to help clear the blocked trail after several big storms blew trees and branches onto it.

This cabin, and this property, are made possible by the love and support of those around us. We hope that it will be a space of love and support for you as well.

Meet The Family

Joe

Dad; Mastermind

Joe is the mastermind behind the layout of the cabin, and is the one who made all of this possible. As a retired engineer, he spent many sleepless nights thinking about every single detail of these cabins. He stressed about whether a doorway should be one inch to the right or left, climbed on fallen logs to figure out where the best view of the waterfall would be, and is, as his contractor put it "one of a kind". This cabin and property are his life's dream and being able to share it with you is icing on the cake.

Karen

"Mom", The Voice of Reason

For every great idea that Joe had, Karen had an equally great suggestion on how to make it better. She worked full time, cared for Joey, maintained their home in Greensboro, and ensured every aspect of the cabin layout was well thought out, all while maintaining her patient, sweet demeanor. Most of the design aspects, from the eye-catching granite countertops, to the bathroom tile, were here contribution.

Ashley

"Me", Busy Bee

Ashley lives on the property with her dog, Tucker, her indoor cats, and a tortoise. She holds her doctorate of acupuncture and works as an entrepreneurial acupuncturist and massage therapist, but when not at work she does most of the land maintenance for the property and is on call if a guest needs something urgently. She also created the website, the hiking guide we have in the cabin, and did the property photography. Ashley and her dog are connected at the heart, so if you see one, the other won't be far away. You may see the pair around the property hiking, enjoying the waterfall, or maintaining the trail and yard.

Joey is a sweetheart of a human. He has special needs (cerebral palsy and autism), so is appropriately doted on by all of us. His favorite things to do at the cabin are ___________. When asked what he would like to tell cabin guests, he said __________.

Tucker

"Doggo", Chief Executive Officer

Tucker is an 11 year old rough collie. If you are lucky enough to spot him, feel free to say hello! He loves attention, and is gentle and sweet to humans of all ages. Tucker used to be a certified therapy dog, going to schools and hospitals to lift the spirits of children. He is now in retirement, and spends his days laying on his front porch, watching people drive by.
